Welcome to the Waive Your School’s Insurance Center!
This page is for those students who wish to opt-out (waive) out of the coverage under their school’s student insurance plan. The school’s student insurance plan can only be waived if the student has coverage under another acceptable insurance plan.
The first step to waive out of your school’s student insurance coverage is to verify that you are an eligible student.

- All full time domestic and Non F1, F2, J1, J2 Rutgers Visa Sponsored students taking at least: 12 credits for Undergraduate
- 9 credit hours* for Graduate, and ALL F1, F2, J1, J2 Rutgers Visa sponsored students and ALL advanced Standing students
Are automatically enrolled in this insurance Plan and the premium is added to their tuition billing, unless proof of comparable coverage is furnished.
*Full time students, as defined by the student’s department, could require you to be registered for 12 credit hours. (Example: Rutgers Business School & Rutgers Law School)
Summer Coverage: All new full time Undergraduate Students registered for 6 or more credit hours and all new full time Graduate students registered for 4.5 or more credit hours are eligible to enroll in this insurance plan.
Visiting Scholars, EOF, PALS, GAP Students, Short Term Non-Degree Students and Early Start Programs are required to purchase this insurance Plan, unless proof of comparable coverage is furnished.
Ph. D and Ed.D students taking only research credits and Part-Time considered Full-Time by the student’s department are eligible to enroll in this insurance Plan.
Students must actively attend classes for at least the first 31 days after the date for which coverage is purchased. Home study, correspondence and online courses do not fulfill the Eligibility requirements that the student actively attend classes.
Begin the enrollment process by following the instructions below.
- Fall Deadline: 9/14/18
- Spring/Summer Deadline: 2/1/19
- Summer Deadline: 6/30/19 (For full time undergraduate students taking 6 or more credits and full time graduate students taking 4.5 or more credits in the summer term and accepted into Rutgers in the Fall 2018 semester.)
Full-Time Domestic & Non F1,J1 Rutgers Visa Sponsored Students
You are required to have health insurance to attend Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. You must complete an on-line waiver or enroll in the University’s policy each semester.
Students who do not respond by the deadline will be automatically enrolled in the Fall or Spring coverage and will be responsible to pay that semester’s premium.
Online only degree programs and non-matriculated students registered for online courses only do not fulfill the Eligibility requirements.
Ph.D and Ed.D students taking only research credits and Part-Time considered Full-Time by the student’s department.

F1, F2, J1, J2 Rutgers Visa Sponsored Students: Students are automatically enrolled each semester by the Center for Global Services.
Students can submit a waiver form for themselves, or enroll a dependent at: http://globalservices.rutgers.edu.
If you are a student in the fall semester and eligible to enroll/waive coverage and you choose not to enroll/waive in coverage before the Fall Enrollment/Waiver Deadline of 9/14/18*, you will not be Eligible to enroll/waive again until the start of the Spring semester.
*For new or renewing students in the spring semester, your open enrollment/waiver deadline is 2/1/19.
*For new students in the summer semester, your open enrollment/waiver deadline is 6/30/19.
Students who did not enroll themselves or their dependent(s) during the open enrollment period may be able to enroll in the policy if they experience a Qualifying Life Event.
Qualifying Life Events include:
- Acquiring a new family member
- Marriage/Civil Union
- Loss or change of Job
- Expiration of Benefits
If you and/or your dependents meet the requirements for a Qualifying Life Event, you will need to provide the following:
- Proof of qualifying life event/proof of involuntary loss of coverage
- Enrollment Form
All documents and payment must be received within 30 days of the qualifying life event. After 30 days, the student or dependents will no longer be eligible to enroll in the plan, until fall of the following school year.
